Bandit Hill is a whimsical adventure through an enchanted forest filled with woodlandcreatures ready to play!

Mountain biker and artist Jill Kintner brings her beloved character drawings to life as they race down Bandit Hill to outrun an onslaught of angry clouds and terribly behaving weather. Full of mud monsters, happy trees, and fluffy clouds oozing personality, the trio of Squirrel, Fox, and Snail look to Jill to save them from the storm!

This magical, hybrid animation and live-action piece brings together one of the world's top mountain bikers with a faraway land pulled straight out of her imagination.

Bandit Hill is a place where the forest comes alive, the critters frolic, and the dirt is oh-so-perfect. Pulled directly from the mind of Olympic medalist and world champion mountain biker Jill Kintner, Bandit Hill takes Jill’s sketch book and brings it to life.

It’s a trip into a hybrid 2D and 3D world that has Kintner riding with her critters while the clouds above argue furiously amid an approaching storm. What starts as a playful adventure turns into a dramatic rescue as the ground gives way to mud monsters and the sky comes crashing down. Darting between reality and animation, Bandit Hill is the harrowing adventure of a woman turned heroine whose speed and grit saves the critters from imminent doom. Oozing with character, brilliant color, and creativity beyond our wildest dreams, Bandit Hill is full of hope. Fairy tales do still exist.

Creating Bandit Hill was no small feat. Over the course of nearly three years Jill, director and lead Filmer Scotty Carlson of Juicy Studios, animator Owen Rixen of the 2D Workshop, and writer/producer Lacy Kemp developed the narrative, characters, and the world of Bandit Hill. It took weeks of hunting for the perfect tree for the critters to call home. The crew harvested moss from logs to create carpet-lined trails that looked like something out of a dream. “Seeing everyone’s touch and the combination of everyone’s skills totally exceeded my expectation,” Kintner said. “We had daily briefs for months with the crew to see animatics, talk, redraw. What our whole team collectively brought to this project was incredible.”

Carlson, a veteran director and filmmaker, was truly tested throughout the course of the project. “This took so much longer than anyone expected,” he said. “We had some false starts, and we had an issue with our camera not working and we had to rethink the whole project and start again.” But sometimes those struggles are what make a good story evolve into something incredibly special. It gave the crew a few extra days to prepare, work through ideal weather windows, and hammer home the intricacies of a shoot that required a lot of special effects to pull off. “Jill has a very particular level of detail and quality, so hitting that consistency was a good challenge,” Carlson recalled. “I love her style of artwork. It has so much charm and personality. When we got the first animations placed in, suddenly it felt like this was possible and it was going to work.”

Jill Kintner is one of the most accomplished female athletes on two wheels. Paired with her work ethic and creativity, she has prevailed in 6 cycling disciplines. Starting with BMX and turning pro by age 14, Jill set herself apart at the highest level and then made a lateral shift at age 21 into mountain biking. Competing in the Mtb disciplines of 4-Cross, Slalom, then Downhill, Pumptrack, and Enduro, her career highlights could stand alone in any one discipline. Still, Jill has risen to the top in all that she has entered. From a BMX Bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic games, three consecutive UCI 4X Mountain Bike World Championships, 15 World Cup wins, 5 Crankworx World titles, Downhill World Cup podiums, Slalom dominance, Pumptrack World titles, EWS Enduro stage wins, and an outstanding 25 Elite USA National Championships across them all. Beyond biking, Jill is also very passionate about design and illustration. She went to school at RIT in New York and CCA in San Francisco to study graphic design but put school on hold to pursue her professional biking dreams. Jill finds an artistic outlet in customizing personal branding and by tapping into creative ideas for other sponser-related projects. Her critter-filled Red Bull helmet graphics, custom jerseys, coloring posters, enamel pins, and a full-scale van wrap with her illustrations are a few examples of how her light-hearted artistic style compliments her fierce intensity on the bike:).
